Social networks have exploded in popularity and users are sharing a colossal amount of information on a daily basis. Unfortunately, most of that data is just dialogue or trivial information that is forgotten days later, disappears soon after and is difficult, if not impossible to reference later.
While it can be interesting to know what family, friends and colleagues are doing each day, how productive is it? Will it really help your business? Will it save you time, money or aggravation? Even if you discovered or posted an incredibly valuable bit of information in the past on a social network could you easily find that information now?
Pagellan is about posting, sharing and archiving knowledge in a social networking environment.
No fluff, no spam, no promotion, just knowledge.
What's the original of the name Pagellan? Pagellan means "page" is Latin, and Magellan is a famous navigator. Combine the two and you have Pagellan. Pagellan is about navigating information.
Every day we all learn things that we wish to remember. It could be a shortcut, a tutorial, a tip, a fact, a definition, a piece of code, a quote, a recipe, a reminder, a goal. What if you could easily create a private or public knowledgebase that saved, categorized and tagged this information forever?
Don't think of Pagellan as a "digital vault", but as your own private searchable database. You should never post sensitive financial or personal information on Pagellan.
However, if you want to "share" your information with the world you can choose to make it public. Share it with your followers and the world. Interact with followers on every post with our commenting system. Share your expertise, build your brand and drive traffic to your profile.
Once again, Pagellan is about Knowledge.. not banter. If you find a piece of knowledge you like from another user you can bookmark it to your account for easy access. You can also vote on other's posts so that the best information in Pagellan will rise to the top of each category.
With our search tool you can search your own posts, those you follow, all users, or our featured posts. Featured posts represent the best information on Pagellan on any topic.
As we grow it will make more sense to search Pagellan to learn about a particular topic then to use a search engine..
Pagellan is free to use. There's a simple signup form and you can then start posting valuable information to your private database. If you want to make it public, you just uncheck the "private" box before submitting. You can post up to 500 characters of information. This will insure information is clean and concise.
When you see others posting valuable public content you can follow them and their public content will be added to your main information stream.
Our moderators will be reviewing all posts and selecting posts to be "featured" in our database.
To be completely clear. Pagellan is about sharing information. It's not about promoting links, spamming or daily chit chat. It's not about the number of people you follow or who follows you.
- Posting spam or self promotion is prohibited.
- Copying and pasting information from other sites is allowed for private posts,
- Copying and pasting information from other sites is not allowed for public posts without a source link.
Accounts violating this policy may be flagged and account owners will only able to post privately.
Pagellan has a unique advertising system based on the tags its users create when posting. Every post is assigned up to five tags (keywords or keyphrases) to help organize and archive the content.
For example a user creates a post about repairing credit and tags it with "credit repair". That term can be sponsored by one advertiser who can display a 250x250 advertising unit on the "credit repair" tag result page. The sponsor also gets a keyword text link on that tag page all for a low monthly fee.

- 3 Tag Credits: $19.95 per month
- 10 Tag Credits: $49.95 per month (tags as low as $4.95 per month)
- Tag credit value pricing valid for one year term.
As you can imagine with a growing number of users creating up to five tags per post the advertising opportunities are limitless. We will be launching an affiliate program on tag sales as well.

Dan Nickerson has created many innovative web concepts over the years, including
one of the Web's very first text link advertising programs in 1998.
Since 1994 he's developed and operated dozens of websites and runs many of his
own membership, info product, and content sites.
As VP of Ideas for Infomedia Inc since 2007, Dan is involved in the creation,
development and launch of many of Infomedia and Joel Comm products. He's also the co-creator of
the Socrates Wordpress theme and
one of the creators of the World Famous
iFart Mobile iphone application.
