View Full Version : Neighbor needs help!

Recently I found that a neighbor on welfare and medicaid for reasons of serious health problems cannot afford to repair or replace his 12 year old desktop computer. He is too proud to ask for help so I'm taking on his plight and hope that "Ask "Youse" Guys" or anyone out there can help?
Most of us would like a newer, faster, better computer! Some can replace theirs on a regular basis. Maybe you or someone you know could be so kind as to donate a working computer to my worthy neighbor. A wireless card would also be a great help as he has no phone and certainly cannot afford any online service.
I'll be willing to pay any cost for shipping. PLEASE help if you can.
Ha. This just gave me an idea. There are many times like this where I'd really like to help out but in this case I don't have what's needed. So how about if we were to pool our resources and sponsor a position in ProWealthSolutions and use the proceeds from that postition to help worthy cases. If we got 35 people interested it would only cost each of us $1 a month and the potental for helping others would be great.
Just a thought.
Dan, If there's enough interest would you help with the details?
Bob, I'd be willing to help with the shipping cost.

Sounds like a good idea Vic.

This is very nice thought, but I'm not sure PWS is the right vehicle for it, if we take a new position, the income growth is going to be very gradual, the $35 each month could pay to ship a computer each month.
Let's look at this from a business perspective.
There's a huge market to dispose of old computers.. I feel bad saying this but I just disposed of 5 computers from my Father's Law Office in June. Gone into the dump(yes, properly disposed of).
Here's the best way I think we could help out here...
Someone write up an article on "How to Donate Old Computers" for ask these guys.. which gets indexed in Google.
Here's some great information for the article..
http://www.nsc.org/ehc/epr2/DONATE.HTM
I give that article it's own Adsense Channel, and donate those earnings to any cause you wish.. We can do other articles and do the same thing.
We can also say that the Got-Zip Network is distributing computers and will pay for shipping to those on it's waiting list.
We could even build a niche site around this idea.

Thanks everyone. Vic, I immediately liked your idea, however , Dan does make sense and offers a new perspective. Vic, you seem to have a flair for writing well! What's say?
Thanks everyone. Vic, I immediately liked your idea, however , Dan does make sense and offers a new perspective.
Yes Bob I do see Dans perspective however my original idea was based on the long term.
I truly believe that PWS is going to be big. I've had very good results from the limited efforts that I've put into it already and I'm going to increase my efforts from this point forward.
Yes it may take some time to see results for this PWS postition but just think what the future could hold for it if PWS does became the big success I believe it will be. If enough of us join together say 35 it's only $1 per month and being that this postion would be in the GZ downline the ticker would help to get it's three members below it so it could became self sustaining. Think of all the good that could be accomplished with such a small investment.
The more I think about this the more possiblities I see for it. It could even be set-up on a share basis where the members buy shares and earn a percentage based on there number of shares and the remainer would go to the Help a Neighbor Fund.
This way someone who wants a share in PWS but doesn't want to obligate themselves to the full $35.00 monthly fee would be able to join.
Almost deleted the two sentences above in fear that this would dilute the fund but what the heck I'm just thinking out loud and trying to show the many possibilities here.
Don't worry if there's not enough support here I won't persue it any further.

Vic,
As you feel so strongly about this, I say we should do it..
I gotta run out for a bit, but check your matrix there's a position open directly under bob, whose under you, whose under KB and then me.
You guys run it, I'll help and you can donate the 30% matching commission and Bob can donate the 50%
Yes that would be a great spot. What'a think Bob? How about the rest of you, any thoughts?

I'd be willing to buy a share or two.

Dan gave you the ball Vic.
Run Vic run.
We'll all run interference!
Okay here we go. How many more want to contribute to this very worthy cause? It would be great if we could pull this all together before the next matrix build. We'll need a way to get this in front of as many members as possible well before then.
I'd like to see the GZ 20-80 rule applied to this postitions profits...20% divided amount the share holders and 80% contributed to "The Help Your Neighbor Fund".
So here's what I propose. If you're interested in participating please pledge the amount you'd be able to contribute per month here in this thread. Once we have everyone in we'll calculate shares and collect the pledges. Once the position is in profit the monthly pledges can be discontinued and we'll start paying back the members monthly fees until it's all paid back. It's at that point the 20-80 rule will go into affect.
Let me know what you think.

I'll pledge five..
I'll pledge five..
Dennis, Vic, Bob and Dan thanks for your support on this very worthy cause.
We still need at least two more supporters in order to secure a postition in PWS at $5:00 each.
If we can get more supporters the cost for each would go down.
To find out more about this opportunity to help others please go back and read this entire thread.

IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
I realize that charity begins at home!
However I also believe that when you help others, you'll get back 10 X.
Guaranteed? YES!
It just may come back in different ways.
If you do not receive 10X your contribution in the next six months, let me know and I'll personallt refund your pledge up to $10.00.
Meanwhile my deserving neighbor in need is COMPUTERLESS! Just try to feel how that would be for you.

That's what I've been saying all along Bob, you'll end up getting tired of repeating yourself just as I have when I spent 10 or so days getting the PWS co-op sorted.. now the motivation has dropped and left me to do all the work... :(

I'm going to send a GZ update tomorrow with another call for subscribers to participate more in the forum and projects..
I came across this earlier today..
The Greatest Money-Making Secret in History
by Joe Vitale
If you want money, you only have to do one thing.
It's the one thing some of the wealthiest people on the planet have done and are doing.
It's the one thing written about in various ancient cultures and still promoted today.
It's the one thing that will bring money to anyone who does it but at the same time most people will fear doing it.
What is that one thing?
John D. Rockefeller did it since he was a child. He became a billionaire.
Andrew Carnegie did it, too. He became a tycoon.
What is the greatest money-making secret in history?
What is the one thing that works for everyone?
Give money away.
That's right. Give it away.
Give it to people who help you stay in touch with your inner world.
Give it to people who inspire you, serve you, heal you, love you.
Give it to people without expecting them to return it, but give it knowing it will come back to you multiplied from some source.
In 1924 John D. Rockefeller wrote to his son and explained his practice of giving away money. He wrote, "...in the beginning of getting money, away back in my childhood, I began giving it away, and continued increasing the gifts as the income increased..."
Did you notice what he said? He gave away more money as he received more income. He gave away $550 million dollars in his lifetime.
P.T. Barnum gave money away, too. As I wrote in my book on him, "There's A Customer Born Every Minute," Barnum believed in what he called a "profitable philanthropy." He knew giving would lead to receiving. He, too, became one of the world's richest men.
Andrew Carnegie gave enormously, too. While some might argue that these early tycoons had the money to give, so it was easy for them, I would argue that they got the money in part because they were willing to freely give. The giving led to the receiving. The giving led to more wealth.
Today it's fashionable for businesses to give money to worthy causes. It makes them look good and of course it helps those who receive it. Anita Roddick's Body Shop stores, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield's ice cream, and Yvon Chouinard's Patagonia, are living examples of how giving can be good for business.
But what I'm talking about here is individual giving. I'm talking about you giving money so you will receive more money.
If there's one thing I think people do wrong when they practice giving, is they give too little. They hold on to their money and let it trickle out when it comes to giving. And that's why they aren't receiving. You have to give, and give a lot, to be in the flow of life to receive.
I remember when I first heard about the idea of giving. I thought it was a scheme to get me to give money to the people who were telling me to do the giving.
If I did give, it was like a miser. Naturally, what I got in return was equivalent to what I gave. I gave little. I got little.
But then one day I decided to test the theory of giving.
I love inspiring stories. I read them, listen to them, share them, and tell them. I decided to thank Mike Dooley of tut.com for the inspiring messages he shares with me and others every day by email.
I decided to give him some money. In the past I would have given him maybe five dollars. But that's when I came from scarcity and feared the giving principle wouldn't work. This time would be different. I took out my check book and wrote a check for one thousand dollars.
Mike was stunned. He got my check in the mail and nearly drove off the road as he headed home. He couldn't believe it.
I loved making him so happy. I delighted in giving the money to him. Whatever he did with it was fine with me. What I got was an incredible feeling of helping someone continue doing what I believed in. It was an inner rush to help him. I still rejoice at sending him the money.
And then something wonderful began to happen.
I suddenly got a call from a person who wanted me to co-author his book, a job that ended up paying me many times over what I had given away.
And then a publisher in Japan contacted me, wanting to buy the translation rights to my best-selling book, "Spiritual Marketing." They, too, offered me many times what I had given my friend as a gift.
A true skeptic can say these events are unrelated. Maybe in the skeptic's mind, they aren't. In mine, they are.
When I gave money to Mike, I sent a message to myself and to the world that I was prosperous and in the flow. I also set up a magnetic principle that attracted money to me: As you give, so you will get.
Give time and you'll get time.
Give products and you'll get products.
Give love and you'll get love.
Give money and you'll get money.
This one tip alone can transform your finances. Think of the person or persons who have inspired you over the last week. Who made you feel good about yourself, your life, your dreams, or your goals?
Give that person some money. Give them something from your heart. Don't be stingy. Come from abundance, not scarcity. Give without expecting return from that person, but do expect return. As you do, you will see your own prosperity grow.
Try it and see.
Let me begin with a reminder of how this all got started. Last Wednesday 8-30 "norfolk_ma_r" Bob Long started this thread "Neighbor needs help" and here's what he had to say:
Recently I found that a neighbor on welfare and medicaid for reasons of serious health problems cannot afford to repair or replace his 12 year old desktop computer. He is too proud to ask for help so I'm taking on his plight and hope that "Ask "Youse" Guys" or anyone out there can help?

A wireless card would also be a great help as he has no phone and certainly cannot afford any online service.
I'll be willing to pay any cost for shipping. PLEASE help if you can.
To my knownledge that need has not been met yet so if anyone can help please let Bob know asap I'm sure somebody has an extra computer just seating there collecting dust and all you have to do is box it up and ship it. I've offered to help pay for shipping and I'm sure Bob will take care of reformating if needed.
I first saw this thread on Saturday 9-2 and it gave me an idea which I posted that day as follows:
Ha. This just gave me an idea. There are many times like this where I'd really like to help out but in this case I don't have what's needed. So how about if we were to pool our resources and sponsor a position in ProWealthSolutions and use the proceeds from that postition to help worthy cases. If you haven't read the beginning of this thread you can Click Here (http://www.pagellan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=717) and go back to the beginning and follow it to where you're at now.
And here's where we are right now. (8:15pm_9-5)
Pledges to this point:
norfolk_ma_r - $5.00
dsirois1 - $5.00
Vic - $5.00
Admin - $5.00
Borderman11 - $5.00
Thanks guys it looks like things are moving lets see if we can keep this momentum up. If you have a relationship with other members of the forum please let them know about this. I'm sure others would help if only they knew about it. Any help with getting the word out would be deeply appreciated.

All right All,
I am playing catch up with all this and I've some reading to do
on this thread to get up to speed on the details, but the gist, if I have
it right, is that you have a solution that needs a small monthly contribution.
So if this is what you all want to do--- I'll chip in five also.
-Steve
P.S. Edit:
I've read a little more on this on the thread.
It looks like with PWS that we are applying the old adage:
"Give a person a fish today and they have a meal today--teach
them to fish and they eat everyday."
I am also hoping that when Bob's neighbor receives a working computer
that he will have the benefits of a Got-zip subscripiton to go along with the PWS to use as a resource to create income on the web.
Now a good used computer would be fine, if someone comes up with it.
But I am pledging $50.00 right now toward a new computer for Bob's
neighbor.
We can all do the math and we all know that we ought to be able to
come up with a decent set-up if we can match my pledge with another
10 - 20 members pledging the same.

Thanks Steve.
This is very generous of you!
I'm proud to be a part of this group and only wish I had the available funds to just buy a gift certificate (through pagellan, of course) for my "neighbor in need" to use at one of our sponsore sites, but I'm sure that he would take just about anything now. I did provide a cell phone and service for him so he is not completely out of the loop.
Thanks again for your suggestion and contribution. Maybe Vic's suggestion would be the best way to go right now.
Hello all,
Thanks Steve for your pledge of $5.00 to the "Help Your Neighbor Fund"
Here's where we are right now.
Pledges to this point:
norfolk_ma_r - $5.00
dsirois1 - $5.00
Vic - $5.00
Admin - $5.00
Borderman11 - $5.00
Steve - $5.00
Total $30.00
Only one more $5.00 pledge needed and we'll have this thing fully funded with 6 equal shares. So come on someone please step up to the plate and help out. Just think how great it will feel knowing that you helped support this vision from the being once the fund is helping supply the needs of many. It's entirely possible that this fund could be helping people very soon as fast as PWS is growing.
Earlier today Bob, Dan and myself decided to go ahead and upgrade one of Bob's Pre-enrollee spots so that the "Help Your Neighbor Fund" position would get placed in the matrix this week where it would do the most good.
Please remember that this does not mean that we have closed this opportunity to others. We still have one spot left to be filled at $5.00 per month until the postion is self supporting.
Now to thank each and every one of you that pledged to support this fund.
I'm going to send my first two months pledge to Bob via his PayPal account now. Would the other supporters please contact Bob to make your own arrangements with him through a PM.
Thanks again God Bless

Maybe we should setup a paypal subscription for this and have the pledges sent on the same day automatically.
Maybe we should setup a paypal subscription for this and have the pledges sent on the same day automatically.
Yes Dennis I'm sure that would help everyone remember and would free Bob from having to send reminders each month. Of course we're all hoping that the fund will be self supporting soon but until then that would really help.
I've never set-up a PayPal subscription, could you get with Bob and see if he wants to do this and see if he needs help setting it up on his PayPal account?

Neighbor thanks you all and looks forward to our supplying him with a good used computer. I hoped to surprise him, but I had to let the cat out of the bag. He'll be happy with any working laptop or desktop that we can provide.
Thanks for all being present and accounted for!!
Once this task is completed and our first worthy recipient is back on line, I'll be asking you all for your input to provide other's needs, to your choice of worthy recipients. (neighbors needing help)
Hello Everyone,
I have some good news. Today I talked to the IT department head for the company I work for and asked if there was a way that his department could help with a used computer for Bobs neighbor. His response was very positive and I'm sure he'll be getting back to me soon with just what we're looking for. So I hope this need will be filled shortly. :-)

Thanks for your continued support of "Help neighbor fund".
Sorry for not keeping everyone posted.
My neighbor is very appreciative of everyone's support to date. He is now recovering from some health problems, but the fact that he has a working
computer has helped him tremendously. His self-confidence is on the rise and he enjoys the internet
and all the other aspects of being on line as well as off.
His needs now are not as great thanks to the outside support we all provide. He is embarressd that he enjoys the "accessabiltyy" (he calls luxury) because of friends like us.
Thanks again.
Bob
