I now have "REGISTRY MECHANIC", SPY SWEEPER", "EWIDO", and most recently a pop-up scared me into purchasing "MYSPYPROTECTER"?!
Are these pretty much duplications? If so which should I keep? I'm told I have no virus protection for my 2nd computer, what do "ask these guys" suggest. Some one told me my laptop (2nd computer) is not as susceptible to attack, what say these guys?

Bob,

Registry Mechanic is excellent..

I don't have experience with the others but I certainly wouldn't buy anything that you saw in a Popup.. that would scare me.

There are a number of companies who install SpyWare just to send you popups on buying their Spyware removal too.

There are some excellent Free Downloads for Antivirus software..

I use: Avast
http://www.avast.com/

Another one is AVG... they make Ewido too.

Want to know what's running on your computer download HijackThis

Also make sure you've got a Firewall. ZoneAlarm makes a free one.

want something better than ewido, spy doctor, reg machanic, search and destroy, ad-ware SE, avg, nortons av, etc, etc?

http://www.kaspersky.com/

This software will kick *** over any of the latterly mentioned softwares. It found stuff that even the above couldn't find, over 6 trojans, and 11 viruses, and loads of other spyware stuff...

I use the following four software programs by PC Tools:

Registry Mechanic
PC Tools Anti-Virus
Privacy Guardian
Spyware DoctorSince I purchased all four at once, I was able to get them all for $80 -- this gives you one year of updates and stuff.

I think the above four are pretty good.

Penn, I'll try Kaspersky and if it works better then I won't resubscribe to PC Tools next year.
Thanks, all of "youse"guys.
I think this is the type of communication that many of us need!
I'll let you know how I make out.

Another good program to consider is nod32. It will help protect against Viruses, Spyware and Adware. eset.com

We should write up an article on this stuff... could be a great one page guide to newbies on PC security on the cheap.

Give it away as a free download on a lead capture page to attract newbies.

If it could benefit got-zip and/or any member I'll be glad to provide additional newbie problems! I've got (and continue to find) plenty of confusion to share.
I'm sure it's not just the newbies (I see the techies taking a peek-see at the solutions occasionally)
Second one page guide could explain "free download on a lead capture page to attract newbies."

LOL Just thought of another guide, might be a little longer than one page,

Bob,

Just keep posting them in Ask These Guys and make sure you put plenty of "keywords" in your post..

You'd be amazed how much search engine traffic we get from this kind of stuff.
