Massey University languages senior lecturer, Dr Colin Anderson sees this as a bad thing for NZ. He says, “Many people in NZ don’t really see the fundamental value of learning another language, being as isolated as we are in little Anglo-Saxon enclave with Australia. But to understand a foreign culture & make connections, you have to study the language".
